Alyx Hilshey at February Meeting

International Brotherhood of Magicians Ring 50: The National Capital Ring

Alyx Hilshey at February Meeting

Alyx Hilshey, a full time, working magician who has recently taken the magic world by storm, will be our guest lecturer at the Feb. 7, 2024 meeting.

After more than a decade of honing her craft as a traveling street performer, Alyx now routinely sells out theaters, wows corporate audiences, and performs more than 100 theme park shows a year.

She has headlined the Philadelphia Smoke and Mirrors Theater for two runs of shows, is a frequent headliner at the Boston Magic Lab, performed at the Chicago Magic Lounge’s 654 Club, and is a regular guest co-star in Ring 50 member Mark Phillips’s The Magic Duel Comedy Show in Washington, D.C.

In the magic world, Alyx has performed a 30 minute one woman show at the M.A.E.S. convention, at Kapital Kidvention, and the NEMCA Yankee Convention – the latter of which, Jim Steinmeyer said, “you were the highlight of the convention.”

She was also a speaker and performer in the close up show at the I.B.M. 100th Anniversary convention in Atlanta and was on the cover of Vanish International Magic Magazine.

In her lecture, Alyx will teach signature “workers” and provide new subtleties for classics. The framework of her lecture is in structuring a parlor or street show that gets you paid, gets you experience, and leads to life in magic beyond the streets and living rooms.

She also lectures on techniques to create rapport with audiences, avoid heckling, and entertain the whole family. Plus routines for

strolling – corporate, restaurant, or festival/theme parks.

Routines may include:

Wand and Coin Opener – A tight opener with 1500 performances to back it up.

Coin choreography and a twist on the flip stick.

Fork Bending – Alyx’s signature effect.

Routining subtleties, techniques, playing big, and creating an amazing gift.

Bill in Kiwi – A deceptive bill in kiwi for the street.

Card Manip Opener – A simple card manipulation sequence to introduce any card routine. Alyx uses this in almost every show and close up.

Strolling Coins – A double whammy ending that will knock their socks off

Street Apron (Gibeciere) techniques that actually fool people.

Strolling Sponge Balls – commercial routine which is great for corporate audiences.

Festival Coins – A great way to add value for your clients.

Christmas Star Production — Produce a massive Christmas Tree Topper, the single most talked-about routine in Alyx’s theme park show.
